Assault City Roller Derby, LLC, (ACRD) is Syracuse, NY’s first and only all-female, flat-track roller derby league! Named after the “Salt City,” ACRD was established in 2007 and is 100% skater owned and operated (translation: we spend as much time running our business as we do training and bouting!).

Our grassroots league consists of working mothers, professionals, wives and students, ranging in age from 21 to 45. All aspects of the business, from administration to bout production to charity programs, are run and maintained by our skaters. Each team member is required to pay monthly dues in order to support team practice space, training, and equipment. We also depend on devoted volunteers, businesses, sponsors and family to hold our truly unique events.

Currently, ACRD has two teams, the Assault Squad and the Battery Brigade, that play bouts across New York and in other northeastern states, including Connecticut, Vermont, and New Jersey. In July 2011, ACRD became an apprentice member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. As part of our apprenticeship, we are working closely with the Atlanta Rollergirls, to continue our league’s growth and improvement.

But ACRD’s community work is just as important as our skating. We donate $1 from each ticket sold to our home bouts to charity. Since our first home bout in August 2008, we have worked with a variety of local and national charities, including the Carole M. Baldwin Fund for Breast Cancer Research for CNY, AIDS Community Resources, the Rescue Mission, and Galisano Children’s Hospital. Skaters are also involved in a number of other community projects including food drives, Earth Day Cleanups, charity runs, and blood drives.

ACRD recruits several times throughout the year. If you love derby as much as we do, we hope you’ll consider joining our team of athletic, vivacious, and caring women. Please email info@assaultcityrollerderby.com for more information about our next recruiting session.
